A downloadable game for Windows
Movement is the core mechanic of my prototype. The player is supposed to be a spaceship avoiding asteroids and saving astronauts coming in the player’s way. The player can move in 8 directions - left, right, up, down and in another four diagonal directions. I have also added inertia for the movement to replicate the space feeling. Inertia makes it harder for the player to control the spaceship at a higher speed, which gives the mechanic more depth. Moreover, the speed of the movement increases if the player holds down the key for the movement. Now, as the asteroids coming the player's way will have different sizes and speed so players will have to try to strategize with the speed increase and all 8 directional movements to avoid them and save the astronauts. This automatically creates a fun gameplay as the players will have to keep a certain speed sometimes but the players would also have to slow down sometimes to save astronauts from a difficult place. Moreover, I have also added a speed boost power up which increases the player speed and disables inertia for 10 seconds. The reason why the inertia is also disabled is to give the player more control over the movement because with inertia enabled, it's hard to control the player with increased speed. This power up makes use of my main core mechanic, which is the movement mechanic. Thus, it adds more depth to the game.
